Mt Baker Snoqualmie National Forest

The Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest in Washington is a National Forest extending more than 140 miles (230 km) across its western edge of the Cascade Range from the Canada-US border to the northern border that forms part of Mount Rainier National Park. It is administered through the United States Forest Service, and the forest’s headquarters is in Everett. There are local district offices for rangers in North Bend and Skykomish. [5]

History

Mount Baker National Forest was established as the Washington Forest Reserve on February 22, 1897. Its total area was 3594,240 acres (14,545.4 km2). It was declared an official national forest on March 4, 1907, and then named Mount Baker National Forest on January 21, 1924. 6. Snoqualmie National Forest was established on land belonging to Washington, NF, on July 1, 1908, and covered an area of 961 120 acres (3,889.52 km2). A portion of Rainier National Forest was added on October 19, 1933. Both were administratively merged in 1974.

In 1935, the version of The Call of the Wild featuring Clark Gable, Loretta Young, and Jack Oakie was filmed on Mount Baker National Forest site because Twentieth Century Pictures felt it was sufficiently remote to ensure no interruptions from skiers or other forest guests. Seven Paramount Pictures later also filmed The Barrier at Mount Baker Lodge.

MT. BAKER RANGER DISTRICT

All field trips of the course to Mt. Baker are now permitted. Staff applies for the permit and records our use every year. Don’t hesitate to contact staff at [email protected] if you plan a new course in the Mt. Baker Ranger District. Also, intend to significantly enhance the scope of a field trip you’ve offered previously. This could require Mountaineers staff to provide additional details to be considered by the Mt. Baker Ranger District to modify our permit.

Two areas of the Mt. Baker Ranger District (Coleman Seracs and the Mt Baker National Recreation Area, which includes Easton Glacier and Squak Glacier) are part of the Internal Climbing and Scrambling Lottery for field trips that are related to the course. Exploring the Area

Apart from visiting Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest by renting an RV, Take the time to take in the mountain towns and the cities along Puget Sound and their many tourist attractions. Darrington, WA, is famous for the yearly Bluegrass Festival, which is usually held in the middle of July. The festival attracts hundreds of thousands of people entertained by music and looking at vendors’ wares. The past performers include headliners such as The Gibson Brothers, The Combination, and Bill Monroe.
